one of the p-traps in the master bathroom wasn’t fully tightened and had been leaking for who knows how long. Thankfully I caught that before the issue became more significant. As I have mentioned, several other things could just be attributed to poor timing such as a leaking chimney (leaking into our house, but I guess if the inspection wasn’t during a rainfall) and broken oven (less than a month moving in). But I CANNOT recommend this company to do your home inspection. The basement crack and mold have left me wondering how I’m going to pay for repairs, not to mention the hazards to my family.
I’ve withheld writing this for long enough. We hired Bottom-Up Home Inspection for a home purchase just about 1 year ago today. The house is 16 years old, so I understand some things are just normal, but add it all up and I have to share my experience. The main source of the frustration comes from things that we specifically asked about during inspection only to be “reassured” that these things were non issues. The first was several cracks in the foundation. I remember asking him about this (and most are typical hairline-type cracks you’d expect), but one ended up being about a 1/4″ wide and needed to be patched – more expensive than the inspection. We are waiting/hoping/praying that it does not resurface and there is not a deeper issue present and more money needed to address. My wife also asked him specifically about an area on a window that looked worn potentially from water. He said it was just normal condensation and wasn’t an issue. Well she’s been peeling off the wallpaper, finally made it to that area, and imagine our surprise to find a good amount of water damage and mold behind the wallpaper. Now we get to face another repair that costs God knows how much because he didn’t want to look into it. He also went around testing the sinks to make sure they flowed properly – one of the p-traps in the master bathroom wasn’t fully tightened and had been leaking for who knows how long. Thankfully I caught that before the issue became more significant.
