Crossroads Engineers
Garth Haslem graduated from BYU with a civil engineering degree and a master’s degree in 1985. He worked in the environmental and construction engineering sectors for eight years, then started as a home inspector in 1993. Since that time, many have entered and left the home inspection business- it has become clear that those who truly serve tend to be more successful.
As a licensed civil and structural engineer, Garth had a hand up. He found the service to be a good match, as he gets to wear levis and tennis shoes, work outside the office, and not report to a boss (other than his wife, who will always and forever be the boss). Doing home inspections also allows his passion for ultimate frisbee.
He’s very knowledgeable and thorough with many years working as a home inspector and with a background as a structural engineer. He made sure we understood every aspect of the house we needed to know and gave us a few tips on how we could do some quick fixes by ourselves. He even checked the sprinklers for us, which we’ve come to discover that most inspectors don’t do. He always arrived early to our appointments, and was very nice to us. He’s very honest and has integrity.
Garth is a truly amazing home inspector! Because of major foundation issues that he found in the first 2 homes we had contracted, we ended up doing 3 different home inspections with Garth, and had a very positive experience on each inspection. Garth looked at every home objectively and told us straight up the pros and cons of every property that we saw with him. He was very easy to work with, easy to get scheduled and very responsive. Garth was great! He was able to see the home quickly and did a very thorough inspection. He was super patient and good at answering our first time homebuyer questions. He found what was later quoted at about 25k worth of critical repairs and saved us from making a costly mistake. We will be hiring Garth for home inspections every time!
