Steve Smallman Prop Inspectors
When we opened the first inspection service in Raleigh in 1980, virtually no one had even heard of a home inspection or commercial building inspection. Today, almost every purchase includes an inspection, and we are proud to have been part of introducing this valuable service to the area. Our team of five licensed inspectors has performed more inspections – over 35,000 – and we have been in business longer than anyone else in North Carolina. When inspectors became licensed in the early 1990’s then-Governor Jim Hunt appointed Steve Smallman to the first NC Home Inspector Licensure Board, and during 7 years of service on that Board Steve helped write the Standards of Practice for NC inspectors, and write the Inspector Examination that all prospective inspectors must pass to be licensed.
Inspector missed something basic. It could have cost me thousands for his incompetence. Luckily I caught it myself before closing. Called Smallman to discuss. Left a vm. Never ever bothered to call back. Extremely disappointed.
Following a neighbor’s recommendation, I contacted this inspection service in advance of the 11-month warranty review of my new home. Gary Sutton performed the inspection, and delivered a report far more detailed and useful than anything I’d previously experienced with a home inspector. For someone who isn’t the smartest when it comes to recognizing or anticipating construction-related issues, I found his help invaluable. Gary took the time to provide a quick review when he was finished and before he delivered the full 33-page report. Because my builder’s warranty program required that I list each problem myself online and upload any photos, which I couldn’t do using Gary’s report, I had to ask Gary to send the photos to me again, separately. Despite this time-consuming request, he came through again. For all that was done so thoroughly, Steve Smallman’s price was more than reasonable, and I’ve found my go-to inspector.
Michael Thorne inspected our home on 3/31/20. A few months later we have found mice infestations. He was very thorough with everything on the inspection and even checked all the lights inside and outside the house to make sure they worked properly. My question is, why didn’t he pull back behind the stove and dishwasher to find the mice infestation????? I am highly upset and this is something that should have been noticed and taken care of before we even bought the home! Do not recommend using this company!!
